Take it away!
Also, all you Jillian haters can go pound salt. She's a softie when something gets her. Please note this does not make me fear her any less :)
It's a thintervention!
You may not be able to do what they do on the show exactly, but I didn't and I'm almost at 40 pounds. My wife didn't and she's well past fifty pounds. However, the "Regular People" stick to their tired excuses that it's "too extreme" to be realistic.
Of course they have to do extreme measures to get the weight off. These people are killing themselves and need to be shocked into shape. It's like going into a drug treatment. It's food rehab. It's life rehab.
These people are extreme cases. you don't get to 450 pounds by having McDonald's once in a while. You get to that by eating it every day. It's a lifestyle that is being altered. It's either you... get your crap together, work out for the 8 hours a day you need to in order to drop this weight, or, quite simply, you *die.*
That's the reality I was faced with and sure as shootin', if you change your eating habits and you get up and sweat, things change. My Mom dying lit a fire under me and I swore I was not going to remain a fat and unhealthy man for the rest of my life. I know you can't turn back the clock, but you can not set it so far ahead, you know?
The "Regular People" brigade all poo-poo the idea of doing it easily at home, but damn it all, Danny lost an additional FIFTY NINE pounds in two months at home. I don't even have that much more to go, so that's inspiring.
Which brings me to our BL update.
We're in the Final Four with Danny, Rudy, Amanda and Liz. there's a few things I wanted to say at this point:
- Danny is starting to turn into like, Rock Hudson or something.
- Rudy's wife is smokin' hot.
- I feel a little bad for Liz due to her situation.
- I'm staring to think Amanda has it in her
- Kudos to Jillian for calling Rudy out last week for sending my girl (or, more specifically Danny's girl) Rebecca home because she was a bigger threat.
So, we saw how the contestants dealt with being home. Before they got to run what has become the OMFG moment of their lives, the 26.2 mile Marathon, Bob and Jillian showed up and checked up on them and beat em up for a little while, and that's always fun!
They all finished the Marathon with Liz and Danny coming in last, at about 7 hours. Seriously though? You have to hand it to all 4 of these folks and Rudy ran the whole damn way.
Then the weigh in. Liz and Amanda banged out a very respectable 16 pounds each while Rudy did something insane in the 40s and Danny just Godzilla-ed* his way through the competition with 59 pounds, losing almost a pound a freaking day while he was home.
Thus, Amanda and Liz are below the yellow line. OK. Look, I like Liz just fine, but how can you deny America's Choice? Vote Amanda!
You have until 3PM.
Vote
* Yes, I just made it a verb. So what?

Biggest loser update: Meh.
So, I'm getting kind of sick of the Biggest Loser this year. It's getting hard to root for some people, like Shay and Daniel. I'm not 100% sure why.
It was a pretty low weight loss week for all concerned, except for Danny who mashed out an impressive 12 pounds after last weeks 15. Daniel is doing something wrong. I'll go so far as to say he doesn't even know what that something is.
Anyhoo, the Black team finally won a challenge, but still managed to lose the weigh in, because in this week's twist is was person to person. So if Shay beat Rudy, her team got a point. if Allen beat whoever the hell was up against Allen, he would get the point for his team. Three points would do it.
And it did, because Black lost, again. Looks like Bob may just have some contenders on his team this year, including my gal Rebecca. She delivered like the UPS man this week and brought her a-game.
I'd like to go through the remaining contestants and let you know my impressions.
Rebecca- she's got a shot. She's cute and spunky and we all know I like cute and spunky.
Allen- He's a nice guy, he's got the ability and drive and he just may have what it takes to do win. and I LOVE his eyebrows!
Abby- despite being sent home, I believe she has won her own personal contest. BL was, for her, a kick in the ass to start her life over from scratch after losing her husband and kids. I don't think I'd be able to do it, that's for sure. She brought Jillian to tears and in that moment I knew she was going to be OK.
Danny- I love the big lug. His enthusiasm is catchy as hell, and you know he weill not put the weight back on, whenever he leaves. He's also the only power player on black this year. he was the only black player to beat their opponent! I also think they are going to foolishly vote him off at some point.
Tracey- Like Abby said, she's crazy, but I have a gruding respect for her. She puts in the work and has never pretended to be in this for anything other than to win. If she does she will get fat again. Just a hunch.
Amanda- Dammit, America's Choice, get cracking. You can do it, everyone else knows you can do it, they took you out first in the challenge, so wake the frick up honey! Your pals Shay and Daniel will vote you off soon enough.
Liz- She's an angry southern Grandma. You have to love her, but for goodness sake, do not cross her. The glee she had when they had to vote a non-Danny home was palpable.
Rudy- man, 101 pounds in 7 weeks. Could he have been happier? I like Rudy a lot and I think he has potential to take it.
Shay- I'm getting tired of her "Blue team has no heart" shchtik. Aside from the Nutbar, they are heart, personified. Black is 1 weigh in from turning on itself like a pack of jackals. Was I touched by her story? Sure I was, but i'm starting to think some of it is an act.
Daniel- I don't know what the hell is going on here, but I no longer think he's what he seems to be. He should have been gone by now, but has allied himself with people other people like.
Maybe Bob has this year's Biggest Loser?

Biggest Loser Week 4: It's a lock!
This week was interesting. There wasn’t as much, well I'm gonna call it "nutbar fallout" from the fantastic group screwing that Crazy-Eyes Tracey dished out at last weeks weigh-in. There was, however, a heck of a curveball thrown at the players as they came back to the house to see all the kitchen cabinets and whatnot chained and padlocked.
Alison informed the unlucky lot that they would be ordering out all week long! Bob and Jillian didn’t take it so hot, and decided to take the group out to dinner and show them how you can go out to eat and still eat well, as opposed to the same old way that led them to be at the Biggest Loser Ranch.
The first Challenge this week was a quiz to pick the healthiest of three chicken dishes, and the winner got healthy groceries for a year. It was between Allen and Abby, Danny and Liz and Daniel and Shay. Danny and Liz got it, and while I like them both, I wanted it for Shay. The woman works three jobs, and as she said this would have meant “1 less job.”
The actual physical challenge was for immunity and was an inclined platform that you had to hang from some handles or you would go a-sliding into the pool. Daniel and Allen were the last two standing, erm, hanging I mean, and it was young Daniel who remained triumphant.
There’s a really good possibility that he could take this, I think.
Danny and Liz and Julio all ended up below the yellow line. I was surprised because Julio is actually visibly thinner in his interviews this week. However one of them had to go home, and it was Julio.
Somehow, Crazy Eyes lost four pounds, despite Doctor H’s warnings that she was not supposed to lose weight. Her partner is, of course, Coach Mo and he is just saddled with her. I feel bad for the guy because he’s busting his ass.
Next week, it goes back to two teams, which I am not terribly thrilled about. It may, however, get coach Mo away from that whack-a-do. I worry about Shay being separated from Daniel though, because he is a great support for her.
I think we're in for an interesting week next episode!
Now for my rant. There’s a Biggest Loser recap I tend to visit so that I can keep track of the players and make sure I didn’t miss anything and there seems to be a real problem amongst the folks there with Jillian. Here’s everyone’s gripes, in a nutshell:
1) She swears too much
2) She’s "mean" and yells at them too much and should be nicer. She demeans and belittles them.
3) She only seems interested in promoting herself and doesn’t really care about the contestants.
Let’s take this one at a time, shall we?
OK, she probably swears a bit too much, I’ll give you that. I think NBC was cutting it out mostly and they left it a lot more in this year, but it has dwindled down since the premiere. I am sick of people being upset that it’s bleeped, however. “I watch this with my kids!” they cry! I’m sure those kids have never heard those words anywhere, either.
Is she mean? No, I don’t think she is. Quite frankly, the only people who say that someone else is “mean” are girls, or women. I mean, come on, as an adult there's no excuse for calling another person "mean." This is true. You’ll never hear a, say, 40 year old man say “I don’t like that Dave in accounting. He’s mean!*” I think boys stop saying this in about fifth grade, unless they are referring to a dog, or, I suppose, if it comes back as slang, i.e. “Those are some mean looking shoes, my man!”
The people on the Biggest Loser do not need anyone to be nicer to them. The people around them were plenty “nice” and made them feel good about themselves and that is why they are 400 pounds. The reason I was crowding three hundred pounds was certainly not because I had an angry woman threatening to ride me like a pony!** My Nurse Practitioner read me the riot act and that helped kick my ass into gear.
So is my NP "mean?" Hell no, I believe she has been instrumental in saving my life.
These people go to the ranch knowing full well Jillian is going to destroy them, and that is what they need. They need to be rebuilt and rewired from the ground up.
The third thing is such straight-up, hardcore, absolute bullshit that I really don’t want to address it. Let me just say if she didn’t care about the contestants why does her team routinely trounce Bob’s? She works them.
You can see she genuinely cares, but her way of showing it is to beat the living hell out of you until you realize you’re worth having the hell beat out of. Am I making sense here?
Also, never once have I heard her berate or belittle the contestants. She may yell at you, OK she will yell at you, but she will always show you what your are capable of and never put you down. Oh, she'll yell at you for not giving your all, but I think we all need a little of that once in a while.
Anyway, it’s late and I’m going to have to post my other, semi-related rant tomorrow because I have to go to sleep.
Did another trail today, by the way. The red one! I also discovered there is a blue trail as well. I want to see where that goes!
* He might say “I hate that douchebag Dave in accounting, He’s a complete asshole!”
** No, not like that, but that bears some merit as well.

Week 69*: 226.8 Bringing Sexy Back (albeit very, very slowly)
Weight last week: 229.6
Current weight: 226.8
Lost this week: 2.8
Total lost to date: 37.4
Weight remaining to lose: 46.8 pounds
I swear to you, I'm so goddamn gassy, I feel like if I trip while on my walk I might go down like the Hindenberg.
Despite that, I am also filled with joy! Very close to 225 which is when I said I'd get a new tattoo. Alas, I am not working now, so that's temporarily out of the question**.
I had a great walk today, and then came home and jumped some rope, poorly as usual.
So for breakfast today I had a new (to me) cereal called Ezekiel 4:9. Yes, I'm serious. It's supposed to be pretty good for you and I imagine it is as it tastes like dirt. I mean like I felt like I was eating the actual cereal box.
Now, it's filling as all hell, I'll give you that. I'm not giving up on it yet. I'm gonna try blueberries in it tomorrow.
So, yeah, fine, it's what the Bible said to eat, but let's face it, this is what they had available! I'd like to think if Ezekiel came across like, an IHOP or something he'd have been like "Fellas! You have got to try this. No, seriously, screw the cereal, someone write this down, this is delicious!"
Well, that's that for now! I'll be back tomorrow with a Biggest Loser wrap-up and a rant.
*I'm not going to make the obvious joke here. I want to, but I won't. I will, however, tell you one of my favorite jokes:
A Chinese couple are in bed and the husband turns to his wife and says "I don't know about you, but I'd love a little 'sixty-nine!'"
She turns to him and says "Beef and Broccoli?!?! Now?!?!"
** Unless, of course, I win the Big Game tonight, in which case, inkers away!

Week 68- 229.6 Ok, that's better.
Weight last week: 231.7
Current weight: 229.6
Lost this week: 2.1
Total lost to date: 34.6
Weight remaining to lose: 49.6 pounds
All righty, this is more like it! I've been working hard this week, I stepped up my walking and my weights and the number of reps on the ab-roller and all. I still haven't made up for my gain, but we're working on it.
ALDI has replaced the frozen turkey burgers with 2 packs of pre-cooked ones, and also chicken burgers. While they are basically a buck each (thereby doubling your cost) they are both quite good. Also, the Chicken burgers are superb, even better than the turkey. I highly recommend them. They are three points, while the turkey is 4! Also, have 'em on a Pepperidge Farm Sandwich Flat and you have a 4 or 5 point sammich!
Anyway, biggest loser tonight, but I probably won't be able to watch it until tomorrow. I'll keep you posted!

Ok, I think I know what I'm a-gonna do!
My friend Filomena has an enjoyable blog. It’s here . It’s a nice breezy read, so you should read it. Preferably outside on the patio with a Cherry Limeade. If she asks, tell her I sent you, but behave and for the love of Pete, keep your feet off the furniture, you uncultured clods!
Oh, and speaking of limes, I have recently switched from having lemon in my tea to having lime. It’s really quite good, and a nice change from lemon all the time. Give it a try! The only drawback is you will never get it in those little packets that they have, like for lemons.
Well, kiddies, have a good weekend. My niece is making her communion Sunday, so I am saving a few points for that.

Dammit, Filipe! Now I have something in my eye! Shut up, I'm not crying!
Yeah, so in case you couldn’t tell by my title, Filipe went home. Sort of expected, and now the final four consists of Ron, Mike, Helen and Tara. Filipe doing his inspirational bit for his people at home really touched me. Good for him.
The challenge was based on week one’s sand pile gag. Only this time, they did 16 of them, with a bag full of the weight they lost. At the crest of each hill they ditched what they lost that week on campus. Then at the end, they were to pitch the bag over the edge of the last hill. Tara, of course, won, but I was worried. She had a great 1st week, then only 1 pound week 2 and I said to my wife, “Man, one pound! Hills #2 and 3 are going to be damn near identical for her…”
And hey, Ron completed another one, with a little help.
A lot of folks are pretty upset that Tara keeps winning challenges, but you know what? She’s not half-assing them, and she’s delivering the goods, full on. Is she smug? Maybe a little. Does she have the right to be? Yeah, maybe a little! She does the work, plain and simple. I think a lot of people get upset when someone wins all the time, but hey, life is like that. Sometime the underdog comes out and surprises you (Susan Boyle, anyone?) but sometimes, the winner is the best player! (GASP!)
Let’s face it, the all the players really banged out some impressive figures this week (and I don’t just mean the nearly flat tummies on some of them):
Ron - 9
Filipe - 10
Helen - 7
Mike - 11
Tara - 8
However, when Ron and Filipe were put up for elimination, they wisely chose to put Filipe out. I truly think he could have done it. He was finally really, really fired up about it. It was nice to see him holding classes in his backyard for his family and friends, and his Greatest Woo-Hoos montage was wonderful to see. He has done what he set out to do
Before the Last Chance workout they had Train the Trainer and let me tell you, it was great. Say what you want about how much of a hard-ass Jillian is*, but watching her try not to laugh running on the treadmill as Tara tried to pull her off was quite amusing.
On the other hand, Ron and Filipe beat the ever-lovin’ snot out of Bob in one of the best montages of the whole show. He was wringing wet by the end and as bad as he was hurting, you could tell he loved it.
At one point, I was actually a little frightened of Filipe, where he’s all angry looking and sweaty. I was thinking “there is a man not to be messed with!” He’s a pretty intense dude.
Quote of the episode:
Mike- “''So far, my dad has played this game masterfully. He's playing chess. Everyone else is playing checkers.''
Mike’s right. He and Tara are the power players, and I think it’s gonna be either of them. Meanwhile, Ron and Helen round out the Final Four. Let me just say this, Ron is a bigger threat than a lot of people realize. He’s been pulling in consistently big numbers now and now that he has gotten so much weight off of him, it’s getting easier. He said it himself last night that things were getting easier. He’s actually a much stronger contender than people give him credit for.
I’m staring to think Helen is nuttier than squirrel poo. Her whole “I have no loyalty to Ron or Filipe” thing killed me. You sent your own kid home. Twice! Jeez Louise, lady, you say you’re finally doing something for yourself, but it seems to me you’ve been doing that for some time.
I still think they are dragging it out making the show 2 hours, and so many weeks. If your show is 2 hours, maybe focus more on food prep, or more simple exercises we fatties can do at home. Enough of the “we have come so far” inspirational montages, already. We get it, you’re in better shape! How about a nice salad recipe or something?
Two more weeks to go. Man alive…
Addendum:
Fellow Weight Watchers! Here’s a snazzy points finder I found online.
http://www.webmilhouse.com/pointcalc.php
Enjoy!
*I see many comments online that she is “mean” which, to me, is such a “girl” insult. Before all you ladies get all bent out of shape, I'll explain. You will never hear a dude over the age of say, ten, ever say “wow, that guy is mean!” Nope. Not gonna happen. Girls will tell you people are mean. Guys will say, “Man, that guy is a total dick!” or "She's a bitch" but will never tell you someone’s “mean.”**
** Please not, no one I have seen has called Jillian a bitch either, so there's that to ponder as well.

Good Night, Dark Horse...
My Dark Horse Candidate, Kristin, was sent home last night due to some fine backstabbery by Ron and Mike. She and Helen came up as the two for elimination. Ron promised Kristin and her mother that he would never write her name down, and he didn’t. He just had Mike do it.
Wow. You know, I never got the Ron hate before, but I can see why people dislike him, now. Bob has to be pissed because he only has 2 teammates left, and I just don’t think Felipe is going to win. I missed the very end where Ron was like “Mike is going to win” and the looks on the other’s faces. If I were them, I’d get rid of Mike first, if possible, because Ron is not a true threat. All Ron did was paint an enormous target on his son, and, I am sad to say, I think it’s gonna bite him in the ass.
Where is the Mike that gave up a year of food to Aubrey? I have every belief Mike could have beaten Kristin in a fair fight, 9 out of 10 times.
Mind you, Kristin gained weight. They practically told you it was gonna happen with the whole "Bob watches the Food Journal" bit. Now, I also think her calling Mike a coward at the end of the show was poor form. At this point, you can see the money, and it’s about gameplay. You have no friends on that ranch right now other than your trainer. OK, Mike and Ron have each other but that’d be it.
I’m finally annoyed by Helen. I think it will be shameful if at the finale her daughter is still heavy and she’s all proud of herself for having her “new life” while her daughter remains fat. When she was all crying to Tara to give up on the challenge so she could split the money with her, knowing full well she was gonna take the pound, I was furious. It’s not all about you. You need to get over the loser mentality. I did find her getting mad at Felipe hysterical, though.
Kudos to Jillian for slapping Tara with the cold fish of reality about sending her friend home. Kudos to Bob for railing his team for not eating enough, and killing with the line of the night “What are you gonna have for dinner? Ice? Lettuce cups full of nothing?!?!?!”
Kudos to Tara for taking 10K instead of the pound because she believed in herself! What made me nuts is that she’s like “That will pay my first and last month’s rent…” I know she lives in NY but come on! I see a lot of people calling her “smug” on line and not liking her, but I don’t get it. Yeah, she wins challenges, week after week by being focused and doing what she needs to do and working hard as hell, the same as Mike. She has stayed in the game despite having everyone target her. Mike is well liked, but that may have changed after last night.
I am, however, starting to really hate the 2 hour format. At this point I feel like they are stretching it out a little too much.
Also, what is the deal with Kristin’s hometown? All the women have the same haircut?!?! It like the Cleveland Stepford Society or something…

Enough, already.
As if 2009 hasn’t been tough enough: My Father-in-Law is now in the hospital undergoing tests.
We’re in the “well maybe it’s this or maybe it’s that” stage at the moment, so fingers crossed and good vibes sent this way please.
Creepy Department:
There’s a new website called Dead at Your Age, where you put in your birth date, and it tells you people you have outlived and done much more than you. Here’s today’s for me:
You are 38 years and 232 days old today. At your exact age, John F. Kennedy Jr. died in an airplane accident. He was a magazine-publisher son of President John F. Kennedy and Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis.
Jeez. Now I feel kinda bad about making it further then John-John. Not bad enough to trade or anything, so don’t turn in the harp yet, Johnny boy.
Additionally:
You've outlived Harry Chapin by almost two weeks. He was a singer/songwriter, filmmaker and philanthropist best known for his song "Cat's in the Cradle" (1974). He died of a heart attack on July 16, 1981, when you were 10 years old.
Elliott See was almost two weeks younger than you when he died in an airplane accident on February 28, 1966. He was a test pilot and NASA astronaut who was backup pilot for Gemini 5 and chosen to command Gemini 9. He died 5 years before you were born.
You've outlived Joseph Smith by about 2 months. He was an American religious figure who founded the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (Mormons). He died of murder by anti-Mormon rioters on June 27, 1844, 127 years before you were born.
Ok, so great songwriter, astronaut and someone who founded an entire religion that isn’t based out of a trailer or warehouse. Jeez. Well, I bet none of them ever had a blog, did they? HAH!*
BIGGEST LOSER UPDATE:
The big news here is Laura had some hairline fractures in her hip that ultimately sent her packing. What annoyed me is Tara trying to keep her there**! Come on, I know she’s your best pal, but she needed the rehab she got when she went out. She had a nice turnaround from the beginning and it was touching to see Jillian take it so hard.
Personally, I am 100% surprised she was not medically disqualified straight away!
My Dark Horse Candidate Kristin got to stay instead. She needs it. I’m starting to think she could take it. It’s between Mike, Tara and Kristin I think. I am concerned that she still needs the help this badly. I feel like that will affect her at home.
I also don’t give Helen enough credit for sure. Seeing her with her husband last night was terrific. I don’t think she’ll win the whole thing, but she’s gonna look fantastic.
I have been seeing a lot of hate for Big Ron online, and I just don’t get it. OK, not all of it. I don’t think he tries all the time with the challenges and I think yeah, I think he votes to keep his son on the ranch for as long as possible, but I don’t think it makes him a bad guy. If my son and I were in the same situation, you can bet your bottom dollar I’d do anything to keep him on. I see a lot of people online busting Ron’s balls about his choice. If he was playing the game this time out, he’d have sent Kristin home, not Laura. Kristin is a WAY bigger threat, seriously no pun included. I think Ron seems to be a stand-up kinda guy. Also, his wife is pretty cute, so there’s that.***
The bit with Mike’s Brother Max was BRUTAL. I was near tears through like half this episode to begin with, but the part where he was like “Now I’m the big one…” just killed me. If he’s not cast next season, I would love it if the show did something for him at home. It’d be great publicity.
Also I noticed, on the internet, people can’t spell the word “huge.” Come on, folks, “hugh” is a name, not a size.
Well, that’s it for now.
*there’s probably a decent chance John-John actually did have a blog of one sort or another, before they were called blogs. He probably had a LiveJournal or something.
**What really annoys me is I always confuse Tara and Laura.
*** Oh, if you haven’t got me pegged by now…

Close the door, you're letting the Monday in!
It feels strange to be back at work, but then again, it felt strange to be away from my wife and son while I was in Florida.
It’s still very hard for me to accept that I can’t just pick up the telephone and call my mom and tell her “oh, Owen did this today” or whatever…
My brother in law and I were trading some fitness tips yesterday. Just general junk, what works or doesn’t etc. Nothing revolutionary, more like: “if you have to have a snack at night, eat something like a granola bar, instead of 9 Almond Joys”, that type of thing.
We got a notice at work that we’re getting new vending machines. And I quote “The new vending machines will allow us to get a wider variety of beverages and food selections.” Compared to the places I have previously worked, what we have now is like a buffet on a Carnival cruise.
2 soda/water machines
1 general snacky-type machine
1 food machine with stuff like cup o soup, microwave burritos, sammiches and what not and
1 honest to goodness ice cream machine. Seriously.
The only step up I can see from that is having, like, Ted from Queer Eye in a glass case (like the old fortune teller machines, but bigger!) making whatever you want for like, five bucks.
Sorry there was no Biggest Loser update last week. It’s been a real kick in the junk in the last few weeks, so I’m sure you can all understand. Recapping begins again this week.
Here’s what I know happened.
1) the contestants ate crappy food for a chance at being the only vote
2) Bob and Jillian went absolutely bonkers on them for “defiling the gym” because most of them ate too damn many cupcakes or whatever.
3) Tara got the vote
4) She sent Sione’s butt home (And the rest of him!)
5) Sione looks fantastic.
Weigh in tomorrow, kiddies.
Also, Happy Birthday, 5th Doctor Peter Davison.

Crap, I forgot Biggest Loser last week!
I missed a big ‘ol hunk of it (I think because I was eating. Irony!) but Mike did manage to pull an impressive eleven pound loss to pull the group’s collective fat from the fryer. The kid is like a machine. Oh, to be 18 again!*
Currently, he and Tara are my favorites to win**. Tara, if you remember is on the “Former Models” team and also seems to be one of those people who can just deliver numbers, every week. Mike just seems relentless and the kid just has so much heart you can’t not be rooting for him. After giving his year’s supply of groceries to Aubrey for her family, I’d have to say the kid is winning viewers over as well. He could be doing it as a ploy, but he just seems like a genuinely nice guy.
So, we lost Aubrey’s sister Mandi. She looks great now, having seen the footage from home. She sacrificed herself for Aubrey and understandably so. With 5 kids Aubrey put herself last and that’s not going to help her. She needs as much time on the ranch as possible. Oh, and am I the only one who is just dying to see what that enormous back-piece she has is? I mean it comes out of her pants and goes under her bra. It’s bloody huge! I’m fascinated by people who seem somewhat “square” or “normal” and they end up having not only a tattoo (which isn’t that odd. Everyday I find more people that have them!) but a friggin’ huge tattoo. I love that, and the stories that go with them. I have a friend who got a tall ship in very old sailor style on her shoulder in memory of her grandmother. It’s huge, but it works on her and I like it.
This brings up another tangent (on this blog? No way!). On a message board I frequent someone posted some rather racy (i.e. naked) pictures of a young lady who had an awful lot of tattoos, and I mused “At what point do you have so many tattoos that you can no longer ever be considered actually naked?”
What? it's a valid question! I’m going to venture that it’s when you can’t really see boobies or naughty bits in general clearly anymore, you know, like those pictures of body painters that walk around in public looking like a fairy or like they are made of wood, or Spiderman or something and you think “Well that’s an interesting picture I wonder…OH MY GOD! THAT’S THAT DUDE’S BALLS!” I reference that particular photo, because you’ve all seen it.
I think Kat Von D is rapidly approaching the stage where she will be able to walk around stark raving nude*** in broad daylight because, from the last episode of L.A. Ink I saw, she’s rocketed herself into the category of “Way Too Much Ink.” For me, WTMI is generally achieved by tattooing your face. Once you get into looking like Jadzia Dax from Deep Space 9, and you are not an alien on TV or otherwise, you have crossed a line. For example:
Jadzia Dax

Rowr!
Kat Von D

Seriously, what the F**k!?!?!?! I mean she's got stars on her face, all sorts of shit on her hands...it's out of control!
I’m probably gonna take a lot of crap for that, but these are my opinions. They may not match yours, but I can still rant about them. YAY INTERNET! WOO! I’m telling you though, the face has an awful lot to do with it, because I think Theo Kogan (who used to sing for the Lunachicks) is quite good looking and damn-skippy her arms are inked up like a desk blotter.

additionally, Kat is too thin, she just doesn’t look healthy to me. I worry, you know. I’m like the Den Mother for sixth-tier celebrities...
* 18 would be pretty great, provided I had the knowledge I have now. For one thing, I’d already be really close to my goal weight!
** Although, I gotta be honest with you, I worry about Sione and, believe it or not, Kristin, who appears to be hitting her stride. Sione pulls big numbers and is going to be on the bloody warpath after last week’s disappointing weigh in.
*** I love that expression. I always picture people walking around naked, but really, really psyched about it!

I *AM* the Stairmaster!
I understand, however, that some people can’t even do that 1 floor. Now, there’s some days where you just do not want to use the stairs, believe me I know. I have taken the lazy way out before. I’m sure, at one point or another, I’ll do it again. Fortunately though, I can actually use them, as my knees are not shot, nor do I get short of breath going up a flight of stairs (unless I am running or carrying people, which doesn’t happen as much as you might thinkin an office job). I feel for people who can’t even do this much, I really do.
I noticed though, if I take the elevator once, just once, during the day, it’s a very slippery slope right into just taking it all the freaking time. I noticed this at the mall the other day when I was with my son. He’s in a stroller so we had to use elevators to get from floor to floor, and it really was harshing my walking groove, man! Mind you, I had to walk further to actually find the wretched conveyance, so there was that, but I felt like I was cheating. It would be cool if there was like a circular ramp, like at a stadium, that you could use to walk between levels. I bet the Mall of America has at least one of those. I’m not gonna be that guy who takes his kid on the stroller on the escalator.** I don’t go to the mall unless it’s really necessary, so I don’t think it’ll be too big an issue in my day to day life.
I worked out both yesterday morning and evening and today I feel like I was taken out last night in my sleep and a gang of hobos was paid to beat my legs and lower back with various objects one might find at an abandoned building site. Wow.
BIGGEST LOSER:
I was saying to a friend at work today “The only thing about the show at this point in the proceedings is you have no one to root against.” That’s right, I said it. Nobody like that bloody awful troll Vicki from last season and Joelle has hit the bricks now. So all we have left are, at this point, people you want to succeed. This is good on one hand because all these people need it and want it. On the other hand, every time one of them goes home you just feel awful. OK so Shanon was a little weepy, sure, but it don’t make you bad person, right? She’s doing OK at home too. Here’s hoping she keeps it up.
My coworker said “Joelle gives me a rash.” I couldn’t agree more.
Mike and Ron came through big time this week though with big Ron banging out an impressive 7 pound loss. Considering how bad that man’s knees are, I have to hand it to him, he did very well this week. His son managed 10 pounds this week after a very impressive thirteen pounder last week! Go, Mike, Go! 23 pounds in two weeks!
There looks to be some serious team switching shenanigans next week, too. I’m guessing from the preview (which is so deceptive they may as well show the cast being attacked by bears at this point) that Ron is not on Bob’s team any longer, and Bob is less than thrilled. I can’t wait!
* Look, I’ve been carting around a lot of flab for a lot of years. Once I hit about, oh, thirty four or so my legs started to get sore and tired much easier. My feet started a little earlier than that. I have spent a lot of time just standing on hard floors in my life though, and that’s no help, right?
** I’m sure it’s safe. I’ve seen it done, but in my head I picture my kid busting out of the straps and then taking a header in perpetuity until they can stop the escalator. I know this can’t happen for real, but it certainly makes for a very “silent movie-era” mishap film in my head. I’m sure I’d rescue him only to be struck with a ladder carried by apassing workman, fall into a open pit in the floor and somehow become involved in a food fight involving nothing but pies.

Week 34: 254.6
Weight last week: 252.9
Current weight: 254.6
Lost this week: + 1.7
Total lost to date: 9.6
Goal for this week: 3 pounds
Goal Weight: 180
Weight remaining to lose: 77
Not a great week this week, and to top it all off I forgot to weigh myself in yesterday. I had Monday off to take care of some personal matters and sure as shootin’, got to work and remembered it was Tuesday.
What can you do, right?
I ate reasonably well last week but lost it on the extended weekend. Stress either makes me not eat at all, or makes me eat nothing but absolute garbage at a pace that rivals that of jerks who want to post “FIRST! LOLZ!!!!” on internet websites comment sections. In other words, I tend to eat like I am going to the electric chair. The worse the better, usually. Although, if there was a bucket of celery sticks in the fridge I’d probably eat those. I’m not real specific about it either, I’d eat healthy stuff, but I gravitate to junk, like a culinary Fred Sanford.
I had a big ‘ol bowl of Fiber One cereal this morning, and at about 10:15 I thought I was literally going to explode. I know it’s good for me (and it tastes really good too!) and it’s something my body’s gonna have to get used to, but well, let’s just say I am feeling much better now!
And now onto this week’s BIGGEST LOSER comments-
Bob and Jillian were positively brutal to Aubrey for her paltry 2 pounds in 1 month weight loss, and deservedly so. Jillian, especially, was vehement about the BS excuses of “You didn’t lose weigt but gained muscle” or “lost inches.” Bob also made a point as to how hard it is to lose at home, and she’s got 5 kids etc, while the people on the ranch lost because while they are there, losing weight is basically their job. I did feel bad for her, but like Bob said, “That’s what happened, get past it, you’re here now, and move forward.”
And move forward she did, banging out an impressive 10 pound loss this week, along with her sister, who did a respectable 6! In fact, all the returning players made a fine showing including Carla from the “Best Friends” /Silver Team. The problem was with only one contestant. I’ll give you 1 guess as to who cocked it up this week.
Yes, my favorite punching bag, Joelle. She managed to stroll, sigh and complain her way to a zero pound weight loss this week. You could see Carla busting her ass (and losing a very respectable 9 pounds for it) while Joelle wandered around the gym and half-assed it. Then she started spouting off some bizarre rhetoric about how she’s learning and pushing herself when she admitted that if she fell below the yellow line, there would be enough people on Bob’s team to save her and Carla, as she was confident that one of Jillian’s teams would go below the line.
Of course she didn’t count on Ron and Mike, the Father/Son team, to also go below that line. What looked like an obvious choice to her was clouded by her inability to realize that nobody liked her, and they sent her home because of that, and in spite of the fact that they all pretty much like Carla. A lot. Carla came back and did what was expected of her, and so did Aubrey. Ron is doing everything he needs to be doing (and so is his son) and, most importantly, they both want to be there. Joelle did nothing and acted like a pouty child when she was sent home. There was only one way the others could have voted, confronted with all that, and they sent Joelle packing, and unfortunately that meant they had to take Carla too.
So, next week it looks like Mike is in trouble again. We shall see, we shall see.
